Top 10 Things to Look for in a Gymnastics Team Program for Your Gymnast

An Atmosphere of Positive Psychology

Although these are not necessarily in any particular order, we have put this one first because it may be the most difficult to find. Gymnasts, athletes, humans in general react best to positive reinforcement, enthusiasm and confidence building. If you find that, you will almost also certainly find all of the following.

Pits

For any successful high-level team program, pits are a virtual necessity. Most good coaches would not even consider coaching in a facility that didn't have pits. Parents should feel the same about putting their gymnasts into a facility without pits. Pits allow an extra degree of teaching, coaching and learning flexibility. Pits should be available for every event and apparatus type.

Trampolines

Trampolines are one of the most efficient training tools for gymnastics. They allow significant time saving advantages when doing skills like somersaults. Ideally, trampolines should be in the ground for extra safety. Training in a facility without or that doesn't use trampolines will result in a slower learning curve for tumbling skills.

Tumble Tramp and/or Power Tumbling Strip

A tumble tramp is a long trampoline for working tumbling skills and power tumbling strips are fiberglass rod or slat floors that provide more bounce and softer landings. Both of these allow longer training sessions of tumbling with less wear and tear on gymnasts' young bodies.

A High Level Competitive Team

This gives you the best indication of the level of coaching available in the gym. If there are not already Level 10 and Elite gymnasts in the gym, you rally have only a hope not a realistic expectation that your gymnast might reach those levels. High level team coaches will likely have trained the rest of the staff in their successful training techniques.

A Clean Facility

A clean facility says a lot about the type of organization that you are dealing with. Parents who are paying significant fees for training have a reasonable expectation that the surrounding sin which they are placing their child are much like their own home - clean.

A Very Organized Program This is the best indication of whether a gym will have the organizational abilities required to put forth a top level team and gymnastics program. Missed deadlines, lateness and other similar organizational failings can result in missed competitive opportunities.

Sufficient Sets of Full Olympic and Training Equipment

Gymnasts require enough equipment that they will not have to waste valuable practice time waiting for equipment to open up for them to practice on. This means both enough equipment for other teammates and enough for any classes that are in the gym at the same time.

Sufficient Practice Time

While younger gymnasts should not train too much, there should be sufficient practice time available for gymnasts if they are to be competitive with other gyms and gymnasts. It is an unfair advantage if some teams are practicing more than your gymnast wants to and is able to.

An Effective Strength and Flexibility Program

All high level and successful gymnastics training programs have effective strength and flexibility programs. Effective gymnastics skill training and learning happens best if gymnasts are already strong enough and flexible enough to be able to perform the skills trying to be learned.

The Automatic Millionaire

David Bach AKA David Millionaire wrote this fairly simple, logical book, which teaches you how to look at your finances, and find ways to save and invest your money for the future. This book is full of insightful ideas on how to secure your future. Let's take a look at the key points of his book.

The Latte Factor. This is the term that turned David Bach into David Millionaire. This is a simple little trick to make some big changes in your life. It focus on looking at your daily spending. What little things do you waste money on everyday? Is it a latte? Is it eating out? Is it scratch off tickets? Taking that few dollars each day and investing it, as opposed to splurging on overprices beverages and eating out, can have very big results down the line.

Pay Yourself First. This is another huge step in the quest of becoming an automatic millionaire. Instead of paying your bills, supporting your little indulgences, and taking care of your future last, invest in your future first. As soon as you get paid, put a certain amount away before you do anything else. Get it into a bank account that you will not tap into. Make It Automatic! This is the David Millionaire secret that brings it all together. People are weak. As much as it stinks to say, it's true. Most people can not stick to a budget, or take twenty dollars each week to put into a bank account. Most banks will allow you to have a certain amount of your check automatically put into a separate bank account each week. This takes the responsibility out of your hands.

The "Sleep Well at Night" Test.

My monthly expenses currently total: ________________. I have ___________ saved in a money market or checking account. This equals _____________months of expenses.

The goal here is to have 3 months of expenses put away. This is your emergency fund. This is so that you can sleep well at night, knowing that if an emergency comes up, money will not be a problem. I truly believe that this security is something that everyone should have.

Looking at the state that the world economy is in right now, it is hard to see how anybody is able to save money. Take a look at the people who are not worrying. Who are they? Do they have nice jobs? With the rate that jobs are being lost, I do not think that the words nice and job belong in the same sentence. Do they have a lot invested in the stock market? Again, take a look at the market. The stock market is not the safe investment that it used to be. Things have changed. In his book, David Millionaire goes as far as to tell you what banks and types of accounts to invest your money in. With the current economic state that the world is in, many of these banks are no longer viewed as good investments. Many of them have even taken help from the government to stay alive.

So how is it that people are still becoming financial free. Entrepreneurialism is the key. Working hard now to create a residual income. Right now people are suffering from the dreaded woe is me syndrome. Times are hard for everybody. Yes, they are much harder for some then others, but woe is me doesn't fix anything. Focusing on the problem does not solve anything. Focusing on the solution is how things get done. It is time to take advantage of the incredible opportunities that are out there.

Save on Winter Electric Bills These Ten Ways

1. Insulate around windows as this is where a lot of cold air get in and warm out.

2. Wear warm clothes inside and turn down the thermostat to save on energy

3. Electrical plug ins and switches are an often over looked energy loss from cold air

Hardware stores sell insulators for wall switches and plug ins just for this reason.

4. Many appliances use electric even when they are off as they have lights that still run. Unplug them or put a surge protector with an on/off switch to turn them off when not in use.

5. Change as many bulbs to energy savers as possible 25 watts run a100-watt equivalent in light out put.

6. Insulate hot water tanks, as this is a big energy user that turns off and on constantly. Make sure to get electrical or gas hot water insulation blanket, as they are different because of the ventilation of gas appliances.

7. An automatic thermostat saves as you can set it to lower temperatures at night and when you are not home and will rise to the set temperature before you get home so the house is nice and warm.

8. Buy flannel bed sheets as they keep you warmer and when you turn down thermostat at night you stay warm like in the old days. Use plenty of extra covers on really cold nights.

9. Clean the coils on your refrigerator as it helps it to run cooler and to last longer and use less electricity. Be sure to unplug the appliance and be careful not to damage any coils. I usually use a duster and vacuum.

10. If you have people in your house that are always forgetting to turn lights off you can install sensors that turn on lights when you enter a room and turn them off if you are out of the room for a certain amount of time. Try one first to see if you like them. It sometimes takes awhile to get use to.

Most of these things you can do yourself but anything you feel unsafe or uncomfortable doing hire a professional.

Biology Book Review - Human Anatomy and Physiology

It's amazing that so few people understand the human body, especially considering that they live within it. It's perhaps the only thing you can truly say that you completely own. Many kids in school do not get an adequate education in biology, which is a travesty considering the full-importance of health care, longevity and living free from disease.

If you are one of the millions of Americans who have received less of an education on this subject than you think you need then may I please recommend an extremely valuable and easy to understand book for you?

"Human Anatomy and Physiology" by Kent M. Van de Graaff, R. Ward Rhees, Patricia Brady Wilhelm; 2001

This work boasts a crash course in biology, specifically human anatomy and physiology. The book is part of the Schaum's Easy Outline series and includes exercise questions, tips for mastering the physiology and human anatomy topic, and everything a student will need to pass a college course or final examine in the subject. The book is jam packed with information from the introduction forward.

Learn about the cell structure, tissue and cellular chemistry of the human body in the first few chapters and then the books goes on to explain the central nervous system and skeletal system, as well as the integration of the muscular components. The cardiovascular system and blood flow from the heart to the other organs. The respiratory system is completely described.

Learn how the body digests, gets rid of waste and metabolizes the food delivering the nutrients. Understand the body's use of water and electrolyte balance. Understand the miraculous reproductive system and how the life cycle continues.

Search Diving: The Dark Side of SCUBA

Framed by shadows from leafless trees lining the banks of the narrow canal, the already dim November sunlight disappears as murky, brown water swallows the drysuit, the BC, the air tank. The mask slowly settles lower, silt forming a grimy division on the lens, a surreal line of separation between the world of sight and sound and the world of darkness and silence. The water churns with bubbles, further shrouding this bleak place just inches below the surface, yet seemingly a million miles away from reality. It's a whole new environment, one of solitary silence, except for the occasional grinding of a propeller blade or the shouts of other team members. The boots stick in the deep mud, making each step a struggle. No need for fins, no gliding effortlessly through a crystal clear lagoon like SCUBA is portrayed in the movies.

This is no exotic dive resort, it's Sauvie Island, Oregon. And it's no vacation, it's the investigation into the disappearance of Kyron Horman. Among the many tragic, horrible subplots the Kyron Horman case has produced, it has also brought to light some positive ones. Case in point: the grim, thankless and yet important job of the volunteer search diver.

"I'm pretty adventurous," search diver Jayson Cottle told a local newscrew about the efforts on Sauvie Island. "I like going and doing unusual things that most people are not interested in."

That's an understatement. Search diving is a tough, grisly task that's not for the faint of heart. Most operations are recoveries, almost never for a live person, and it's compared to being a medical examiner, except dead and decomposing bodies are much different underwater. Sometimes the body will just turn or move around and appear to take a look right at you. Sometimes marine life moves around under the skin making it appear like the facial muscles are flexing and smiling or blinking the eyes. Often, due to the low-visibility conditions, divers report smelling, even tasting the bodies well before they actually see them.

Because of such horrifying situations, even the toughest of the tough wear down and give up on search diving, usually after only a couple of years.

The job can be one without much reward, and with a lot of personal expense. Most search divers are volunteers, driving themselves in their own personal vehicles to the search site, providing their own dive gear (up to $6,000 worth) and not getting paid a dime. Even the paid search divers are usually Firefighters or Police Officers are only compensated a tiny amount, in some cases literally $15 extra every two weeks.

But these folks aren't in it for the money. It's their higher sense of duty and altruism that calls them to this task. They feel like it's a job that nobody else wants to do, yet we all know somebody has to.

Somebody has to get into that muddy, cold water, fighting the currents and peering through two-foot visibility. It's probably the most important job in some crime investigations. Sometimes its the search diver who is called upon to find key evidence that could help to solve a case. Other times they are instrumental in recovering the body of a drowning victim, helping the family to at least have some sense of closure.

Whatever the motivation, there is something instinctual inside the people who become search divers that drives them to help others. Good thing, too, for in that dark world of solitary silence, instinct is sometimes the only thing they can rely upon.

How to Pick Out the Right Kart Seat For Karting

You've decided you either want a new kart seat, or your new and you just need one to race. There are many factors to consider when choosing.

Seat placement

Generally on a straight kart it will be placed in the center of the kart. On an offset kart for oval racing it usually is placed farther left.

Types

There are some different styles and materials that they are made out of and it's not too large of a collection, so it makes your choice easier. Here are the main ones you will see:

Fiberglass Kart Seats

Fiberglass is usually the choice of most racers. It has a nice finish, and is strong to a point. Fiberglass are popular for the same reasons fiberglass bodies are. They are easy to patch up if they crack a little bit. They also come out with a good finish when painted. It is a strong lightweight material.

Plastic

Plastic bends but doesn't break, but when they do break, you can't really fix it. This is probably the 2nd mots popular type but still not that close to the fiberglass ones.

Carbon Fiber

These are the most expensive and the highest quality, as well as the lightest. If you have the money it is a good investment. If you have ever seen carbon fiber it has a unique look to it, like it's woven together. This is a strong material as well, but rarely seen in karting.

Kart Racing Seat Designs

When picking a seat, you have different design choices to pick from. Here are some:

Lay down Seats

These are the choice for most racers. It has the least wind resistance, and most feel it's more comfortable. The only downside is for shorter people and seeing over the steering wheel.

Upright Seats

These are the original seats in karting, and are just more upright than the lay down seats.

Sizes

The best way to really check for your size is to sit in a seat. But if you want to get a rough estimate, they come in mostly general sizes like, extra small, small, medium, large and extra large.

Padding

There is padding out there you can buy specifically for kart seats, but most people find it best just to add their own, using anything from duct tape to foam.
